Collotypes and blueprints, skills from the past |
|
One of Repro-van de Kamp’s specialisms used to be making collotypes. Four generations of the Van de Kamp family operated the collotype printing machine. In the beginning, blueprints were produced using sunlight. Later on, fully automated print lines were developed, enabling us to achieve high production levels. Early this century, our facilities at the Wegastraat in The Hague could still produce collotypes, but as the supply of the necessary spare parts and collotype material ran dry, the last collotype press also disappeared from Repro-van de Kamp.
Today, all large format collotype printing is done digitally using big scanners and plotters so that processing is quicker and easier. And yet we still have customers who miss the smell and colour of the paper. At the reception desk they can talk about bygone days with Leo, our last true collotype printer, while enjoying a cup of coffee.
